It’s gorgeous out…Indian summer. We are enjoying those precious last few days of sitting outside, barbecuing, getting in a bike ride or even a round of golf. Sitting at that football game is still tolerable.
Preparing your furnace for winter may be the last thing on your mind, but here is why you should consider doing it now.
Avoid expensive repairs
One of the benefits of performing maintenance on your furnace is that by spending a little money, you can identify potential problems that can cost you a great deal of money later. For example, preventative maintenance can identify easy to fix problems such as:
- Duct work loosened due to normal thermal expansion and contraction
- Blower motor starting to fail
- Clogged filters which will shorten equipment life
- Improperly firing burners
- Blocked condensate drains
- Loose wiring harnesses
- Blocked exhaust vent piping
- A malfunctioning thermostat
Fix major problems now
Of course, your furnace may already have major problems. If so, wouldn’t you want those repairs made now, as opposed to having your furnace break down in the bitter cold? Indeed, if your furnace is older, you might even think about having the furnace replaced while the weather is relatively mild.

Many manufacturers’ warranties are voided if you do not have annual maintenance performed on your furnace. You don’t want to run the risk of having to spend several hundreds of dollars on repairs or several thousands of dollars on a new furnace because you did not spend a few bucks each year on maintenance.
